Topical haemoglobin for chronic wounds

Granulox is a topical haemoglobin spray indicated for the treatment of slow-healing wounds such as foot and leg ulcers, pressure sores and post-surgical wounds.

The first product of its kind to be launched in the UK, Granulox contains pure haemoglobin which acts as an oxygen transporter from surrounding air to improve oxygen availability in the wound bed thereby aiding wound healing.

In a 13-week study including 72 adults with venous leg ulcers an average wound size reduction of 53% was observed when topical haemoglobin spray was added to standard care (n=36) while standard care alone (n=36) produced no significant improvement.

A small amount of Granulox should be sprayed onto the wound before applying a standard breathable dressing.
