Simvastatin now available as a suspension

Patients on simvastatin who find it hard to swallow tablets can now take a liquid formulation. The sugar-free suspension is licensed for the same indications as the tablets:

  • Primary hypercholesterolaemia or mixed dyslipidaemia, when the response to diet and other non-pharmacological measures is inadequate
  • Homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia, as an adjunct to diet
  • Reduction in risk of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in patients with atherosclerotic disease or diabetes

It is available in strengths of 20mg/5ml and 40mg/5ml.
