Shingles vaccine now prescribable on NHS

Previously only available on private prescription, the shingles vaccine Zostavax can now be prescribed on the NHS.

Given as a single subcutaneous injection, the live attenuated vaccine is licensed for the prevention of shingles and post-herpetic neuralgia in adults 50 years of age and older.

Prescriptions for Zostavax are reimbursed at £99.96 per 0.65ml pre-filled syringe.
