The summary has been prepared by the MIMS editorial team as a helpful resource for healthcare professionals. It includes:

  • Guidance on dose titration;
  • Alternative maintenance treatments to consider when oral opioids are unsuitable;
  • Treatment options for breakthrough pain;
  • Advice on the management of side-effects, including constipation, nausea and drowsiness.

MIMS also provides a quick-reference summary of the WHO pain ladder for cancer pain relief and a table of co-analgesics for use in cancer pain.
