Mixtard 30 to be discontinued

NovoNordisk is discontinuing all presentations of Mixtard 30 at the end of the year, for commercial reasons. The Penfill cartridges, prefilled InnoLet injector and 10ml vials of the biphasic insulin - a mixture of 30% soluble and 70% isophane insulin - will all be withdrawn on 31 December.

Prescribers should ensure that patients are changed to an alternative insulin preparation before this date. When choosing an alternative insulin, prescribers should take into consideration the equivalent dose and type of insulin, suitability of the device and cost. The decision should be made on a case by case basis.
