Botulinum toxin warning

Safety information regarding botulinum toxin products (Botox, Dysport, NeuroBloc and Vistabel) has been issued by the manufacturers following discussion with European regulatory authorities, including the MHRA.

There have been very rare reports of serious adverse effects related to the distant spread of botulinum toxin, including muscle weakness, dysphagia or aspiration pneumonia.

Patients and carers should be informed about the risk of toxin spread and advised to seek immediate medical attention if swallowing, speech or respiratory disorders arise.
