3M launches steroid foam for scalp psoriasis

3M Health Care has launched Clarelux foam (clobetasol propionate) for the short-term treatment of steroid responsive dermatoses of the scalp such as psoriasis, which does not respond satisfactorily to less potent steroids.

Clarelux is a cutaneous foam formulation presented as a pressurised aerosol delivering 500 microgram per g of the very potent steroid clobetasol propionate.

A small amount, about the size of a walnut or teaspoon, should be applied directly to the lesions twice daily and gently massaged into the affected area until it is absorbed. Treatment should be limited to two consecutive weeks and amounts greater than 50 g per week should not be used.

Clarelux is not recommended for use in the under 18s.

Clarelux is available as a 100g aerosol at a basic NHS price of £11.06.
