Home Oxygen Supplies: Procedure for Ordering
An integrated (cylinder, concentrator, liquid) home oxygen service for England and Wales is available direct to the patient's home from a regional supplier. Services include emergency oxygen therapy, short burst oxygen therapy, long-term oxygen therapy and ambulatory oxygen therapy.

  • Assessment by respiratory team - best practice guidelines available on British Thoracic Society website www.brit-thoracic.org.uk
  • Order by completing Home Oxygen Order Form* (HOOF) indicating service required, oxygen flow rate (if awaiting referral, recommended flow rate = 2L/minute), hours of use, special needs
  • Send HOOF direct to supplier (no longer use FP10 or WP10)
  • Supplier will provide all necessary equipment to best meet the patient's needs as indicated on the HOOF
  • Supplier provides advice to clinical staff, patients and carers on the use of oxygen equipment at any time via 24-hour freephone numbers listed
  • Supplier cannot alter flow rate specified by clinician
  • Changes to patient's oxygen needs should be indicated on a new HOOF and sent to supplier
  • Supplier responsible for arrangements for payment of electricity costs associated with use of equipment supplied
