Fultium-D3: vitamin D3 capsules launched

Fultium-D3 capsules have been launched for the prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency and as an adjunct to the treatment of osteoporosis in patients with or at risk of vitamin D insufficiency.

Although colecalciferol is currently available in preparations in combination with calcium, Fultium-D3 is the first colecalciferol-only licensed preparation available in the UK

Each capsule of Fultium-D3 contains colecalciferol 800IU, which is equivalent to 20 microgram vitamin D3.

Dosing

For patients with serum vitamin D levels <25nmol/l, the recommended dose is 1–4 capsules daily for up to 12 weeks.

For the prevention of vitamin D deficiency (including adults and the elderly with serum levels 25–50nmol/l and for long-term maintenance therapy), patients should take 1 or 2 capsules daily.

As an adjunct to specific therapy for osteoporosis, 1 capsule daily is appropriate.

Contraindications

Fultium-D3 is not recommended in children under 12 years of age and is contraindicated in patients with peanut or soya allergy.
