GSK launches combined Hib/Meningitis C vaccine

GSK has launched Menitorix, a combined conjugate vaccine that provides protection against invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and Neisseria meningitides serogroup C (MenC).

Menitorix can be used both in the primary vaccination of infants from two months to 12 months, and as a booster in children who have previously completed a primary immunisation series with Menitorix or with other Hib or MenC conjugate vaccines.

The primary immunistion schedule for infants aged two to 12 months comprises three doses, each of 0.5 ml, administered by intramuscular injection at intervals of at least one month apart.
The booster, a single 0.5 ml dose, is usually given from 12 months of age onwards.

Menitorix is supplied as a single dose vial with pre-filled syringe of diluent at a basic NHS price of £39.87.
