Generic atorvastatin now available

Atorvastatin is now available as a generic preparation in 10mg, 20mg, 40mg and 80mg tablet strengths.

Atorvastatin was previously only available as the branded product Lipitor from Pfizer and it is expected that prescribing the generic preparation will result in considerable savings for the NHS.

Licensed indications

Atorvastatin is licensed for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolaemia, mixed dyslipidaemia, homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia and the primary prevention of cardiovascular events in high-risk patients.
