Efexor prescribing information revised

The prescribing information for Efexor and Efexor XL (venlafaxine) has been revised. Changes include new wording for the indication and the removal of the requirement for specialist initiation for daily doses below 300mg.

In depression, the wording of the indication for Efexor and Efexor XL has been changed to read the treatment of major depressive disorder including depression accompanied by anxiety.

Other changes include removal of the requirement for specialist initiation for daily doses below 300mg, and removal of the requirement to perform a baseline ECG.

Additional advice is provided on the management of patients at increased risk of suicide, and for use in heart disease and uncontrolled hypertension.
