DuoTrav offers new treatment option in glaucoma

Patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who are insufficiently responsive to topical beta-blockers or prostaglandin analogues may benefit from the launch of DuoTrav eye drops.

DuoTrav is an eye drop solution containing a combination of the prostaglandin analogue travoprost (40 micrograms per ml) and the beta-blocker timolol (5mg per ml).

Results of trials have shown that the combined drops are more effective in producing a rapid and lasting achievement of target intraocular pressure than the individual components given alone, and are as effective as concomitant therapy with the two given separately. Comparable efficacy has also been demonstrated with a fixed latanoprost/timolol combination.

Dosage is also simplified, one drop of DuoTrav being instilled into the affected eye once daily, morning or evening.
DuoTrav is presented in 2.5ml bottles, available singly or in packs of three at a cost of £13.20 and £37.62, respectively.
