Healthcare professionals are handing out fewer prescriptions for medications to help people who want to quit, as smoking rates fall to the lowest on record and smokers increasingly turn to e-cigarettes.
Varenicline does not increase risk of psychiatric events, study confirms
Additional side-effect monitoring is no longer required for the smoking cessation treatment varenicline (Champix), after a large multinational trial showed that the drug did not significantly increase the risk of neuropsychiatric events compared with nicotine patches or placebo.
