Benzamycin out of stock

Benzamycin GelĀ® (benzoyl peroxide 5% w/w erythromycin 3% w/w) for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris is currently unavailable.

Schwarz Pharma's contract manufacturer is currently unable to supply the product. While the company has endeavoured to keep Benzamycin Gel in stock, their last supplies are now exhausted. This will result in Benzamycin Gel being unavailable for up to six months.

During this period, the company wishes to ensure that patients continue to receive an appropriate and effective treatment for their acne. Benzamycin is a combination benzoyl peroxide/antibiotic. The company continues to recommend that patients receive a combination benzoyl peroxide and antibiotic for their acne.

As Benzamycin Gel is unavailable, Duac Once Daily Gel® (clindamycin 1% and benzoyl peroxide 5%) is the only combination acne treatment containing benzoyl peroxide and an antibiotic. For this reason Schwarz Pharma recommends that for those patients currently treated with Benzamycin Gel, Duac Once Daily Gel be considered as a suitable alternative. Prescribers are advised to consult the Duac Summary of Product Characteristics before prescribing.

The supply of other Schwarz Pharma Limited products are unaffected by this specific manufacturing problem. Schwarz Pharma would like to apologise for any inconvenience that this has caused.
