  • TSH if dyslipidaemia is present
  • Smoking status
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Fasting TC, LDL-C, HDL-C and triglycerides (if not already available)

Lifestyle Advice

  • Diet and weight
  • Physical activity
  • Alcohol reduction
  • Smoking cessation

BOX 2: RISK ESTIMATION

Risk (including Framingham, ASSIGN and QRISK equations should not be used for people already considered at high risk of CVD – use clinical assessment instead.

The Framingham equations may overestimate risk in UK populations.

When using these equations, multiply the score by:

  • 1.4 for men with a South Asian background
  • 1.5 if one relative has a history of premature CHD
  • 1.5 to 2.0 if two or more relatives have a history of premature CHD
