BOX 2: FRAMINGHAM

CVD risk = 10-year risk of fatal and non-fatal stroke, including transient ischaemic attack + 10-year risk of CHD

CHD risk includes the risks of death from CHD, and non-fatal CHD, including silent MI, angina and coronary insufficiency (acute coronary syndrome).

Notes: The Framingham equations should not be used for people already considered at high risk of CVD – use clinical assessment instead. The Framingham equations may overestimate risk in UK populations.
